  What fantastic festival we've had this year with the river conditions looking poor,low and crystal clear the fish have been on a feeding frenzy especially the roach all the sections have fished well for the sell out field of 72. Leading the way on day1 was Dave Jones drawn on the Shardlow section peg3 he fished pole with casters and hemp and then stick float for quality roach for 23lb 2oz.Second on peg2 on Broadholme island was Tony Marshall who fished long firstly with bread punch and then Hempstead for 20lb 5oz.Third was Paul Bick on the Shardlow reaches peg 6  fishing casters on long pole for 18lb 4oz of roach. Day2 After overnight rain the river rose afew inches but it didn't deter the fish. Ant White drew the  barbel peg at shardlow and decided to have a go for them fishing feeder with various hook baits he'd had afew perch till mid match when he landed his first double figure fish on meat,after a long lean spell his tip went again at the death and another double went in the net for a winning 23lb..Second downstream at shardlow on the A6 stretch was Toby Bunting fishing waggler with casters for 19lb 8oz of roach. Third was Dennis Armstrong again on shardlow peg6 fishing waggler and stick float with bronze maggots for 16lb 12oz. After 2 days Dennis Armstrong,Wayne Swinscoe and Mark Hawksworth were leading on 4 points. Day3 As one or two sections slowed down which is understandable  shardlow decided to go mad which the roach in a feeding frenzy  Ian Shaw had fantastic day fishing fishing waggler with casters and tares for a thumping 38lb 9oz of roach from shardlow peg3. Second on peg11 at shardlow was Sam Merry starting on a 5m whip with maggots  he caught really well before sport slowed and he switched to waggler with casters for 23lb 12oz. Third a peg below the winner was James Robbins who fished 6m pole with maggots for 23lb 4oz of mostly dace. The 2018 Festival winner was Mark Hawksworth  with 5 points catching well into double figures every day.Runner up was local angler Roger Smith with 6 points.Third was Sam Merry on 7.  It was a very tight frame with only 5 points separating the top ten.
